125 Chickens at Lighthouse Community School: Local 12

A group that encourages healthy eating by growing fresh food in Madisonville is now working with chickens. It’s a way to promote urban sustainability in a community considered a food desert.
That’s what they’ve been doing in Madisonville with the 500 Gardens program. The new goal is 500 Chickens.The Lighthouse Community School has partnered with Sidestreams, a nonprofit organization focused on urban agriculture, to raise 125 chickens. Geoff Becker, a teacher at Lighthouse Community School, works with the school’s garden and the chickens.
